Dave's Guitar pages: The Test Axe

Take a good look at that guitar, close-up linked to the right. Yeah, I actually paid money for this, about $170 at a guitar store in Nashua NH, where the manager 9as he rang up this old wreck) wondered how they got it. "Steve took that in" says the sales guy. That seemed to make sense to the manager, he just kind of grunted with wry resignation. Under the earth sticker is a pentagram, crudely hacked with what looked like maybe a screwdriver. A big ding (bigger one on the back), and the funky sticker around the tone control were all there when I bought it...as were the crookedly applied Sperzel tuners. But I needed a cheap humbucker axe for exploring the world of 'buckers, as at that time all I had was Wayne. And hey, it says Gibson on the truss cover. I think this is an old G400 Epi, of course. I like the MOTO Epi logo on the headstock, it's rather nice. SG_Body.jpg (123140 bytes)
It's been completely rewired, roller Schaller bridge, and a new nut, and it has seen probably 30 pickups. Currently it has a Tone Zone in the bridge and a PAF Pro in the neck, which I'm really getting to like. Some short clips to the right PAF Pro Clean, PAF Pro Rhythm
And a longer one. MellowBlues
